 Subject and Verb Agreement

Subject and verb agreement merupakan penyesuaian antara subjek dan verb dalam sebuah kalimat yaitu tunggal (singular) dan jamak (plural). Pada dasarnya singular subjek menggunakan singular verb, sedangkan plural subject menggunakan plural verb.

Contph:

1. Riani is busy today

2. Some students are in the library

3. Most of the people work in the farm


Agreement after propositional pharase

Propositional pharase merupakan sebuah frasa dalam sebuah kalimat setelah kata in, on, at, behind, of, to, by, dll. Misalnya in the classroom, to the door, on the table, by the teacher.

Rumus:

- Singular subject + (Propositional pharase) + singular verb

- Plural subject + (Propositional pharase) + plural verb

Contoh:

1.     Salah: The key to the doors are in the drawer

        Benar: The key to the doors are in the drawer

2.     Salah: The doors to the room is locked

        Benar: The doors to the room are locked


Agreement after expressions of quantity

Terdiri atas all, most, some yang diikuti proposition of. Maka subjek all, most, some dapat menjadi singular atau plural tergantung pada apa yang mengikuti preposition of.

Contoh:

1. All of the book was interisting

2. All of the books were interisting

3. All of the information was interisting


Agreement after certain word

Certain word merupakan kata-kata yang selalu berbentuk tunggal (singular) secara gramatikal namun mungkin memiliki makna jamak (plural). Misalnya: One, anyone, everybody, nothing, someone dll.

Contoh:

Salah: everybody in library are reading the book

Benar: everybody in library is raeding the book

Dependent terdiri dari connector + subjek + verb Kalimatnya: beetween the girl and you 2. She is prepared for what that wil happen with her house hold after she caught her husband red-handed cheating on her with their maid. Kata yang salah:  3. Subjek Verb Agreement

  Subjek verb agreement adalah ketersesuaian antara subjek dan verb. Maksudnya adalah jika subjeknya singular maka verbnya juga harus singular, begitupun sebaliknya jika subjeknya plural maka verbnya juga harus plural. Jika subjeknya:  I, you, they, we maka verbnya harus verb 1 Contoh: Three cats eat my fish - Three cats sebagai they adalah subjek - Eat sebagai verb1 karena menggunakan kata ganti they - My fish sebagai objek Jika subjeknya: He, she, it maka harus menggunakan verb (s) Contoh: A cat eats my fish - A cat sebagai it adalah subjek - Eats sebagai verb(s) karena menggunakan kata ganti it
